How to Save Money on Arctic Cathedral Tickets

Arctic Cathedral tickets: NOK 90 at the door, who goes free, group and concert prices, and when a tour with entry included is worth it (October 2026).

Updated October 2026

An Arctic Cathedral ticket costs NOK 90, bought at the door when you arrive; there is nothing to book in advance. Children under 12, residents of Tromsø and anyone coming to a church service go free, and groups of 15 or more pay NOK 85 each (October 2026). The only online ticket that includes the cathedral is a guided tour: OK Tromsø’s walking tour, which ends inside it with entry and the bus over the bridge included, from $70 a person, rated 5.0 from 13 reviews (checked October 2026).

The cathedral’s visitor page says it plainly: tickets are purchased at the door. None of the GetYourGuide listings we read in October 2026 sells entry to the Arctic Cathedral on its own; where entry is included, it comes with a guided tour.

Map of the Arctic Cathedral's surroundings in Tromsdalen: the cathedral at the mainland end of the Tromsø Bridge, the Tromsdalen kirke bus stop for routes 24 and 26 beside it, and the Fjellheisen cable car's lower station about ten minutes' walk to the south
You buy the NOK 90 ticket at the cathedral door; the bus stop is beside it and the Fjellheisen cable car about ten minutes’ walk away.

Five ways to pay less

  1. Bring the children. Under 12 they go in free, so a family of two adults and two young children pays NOK 180.
  2. Come to a service. Services in Tromsdalen Church are free and open to everyone, on Sundays at 11:00 and at the big church festivals. It is worship, not a visit, so come for the whole service and keep the camera away.
  3. Walk over the bridge. The Tromsø Bridge takes about 20 minutes on foot from the centre and costs nothing; the bus is quicker in bad weather.
  4. Look from outside first. The bridge gives the whole building from the city side, free. Pay to go in for the glass mosaic and the organ, which you only see inside.
  5. Travel as a group. From 15 people the price drops to NOK 85 each, and the cathedral can open for a group outside its normal hours if you email booking@ishavskatedralen.no well in advance.

When a tour with entry is worth it

A tour costs more than going alone, because you are paying for the guide. It is the better buy when you want the guide anyway: OK Tromsø’s walk spends about an hour and three quarters in the centre, the quayside and the old wooden houses, then rides the bus with you to the cathedral and leaves you there, entry included. Tromsø Accessible Tours' four-hour island tour suits a wheelchair user or anyone who prefers to be driven: adapted vehicles, a visit to the Tromsø University Museum, Telegrafbukta beach, and a 15-minute stop at the cathedral with entry.

Concert tickets

Concerts are ticketed apart from entry. The cathedral sells its own, such as Aurora Tunes and the New Year’s concert, at the door or through its Hoopla ticket page; visiting choirs and singers sell theirs through their own pages, and the Julefred Christmas concert is also on GetYourGuide. The 23:00 Midnight Concert that visitors often link with the Arctic Cathedral is a separate event in Tromsø Cathedral in the centre, with Visit Tromsø listing a door price of NOK 295 for adults. The concert schedule has the dates, and opening hours tells you when you can simply walk in.

Entry and concert prices from the Arctic Cathedral’s own visitor and event pages and Visit Tromsø, read on 29 October 2026; Sunday service time from the cathedral’s service page. Tour prices, inclusions and ratings from GetYourGuide, read in US dollars on 29 October 2026.
