Arctic Cathedral Concert Schedule

The Arctic Cathedral’s concerts for the rest of 2026 are its Aurora Tunes organ concerts on Friday evenings at 17:30 to the end of November, a run of Christmas concerts from 5 to 22 December, and the New Year’s organ concert at 21:00 on 31 December, as listed on 29 October 2026. Tickets cost from NOK 250 to NOK 595 and are sold at the door or online, mostly through Hoopla. On evenings without a concert there, the city’s nightly concert is the 23:00 Midnight Concert in Tromsø Cathedral in the centre. Aurora Tunes: the autumn organ Fridays

Aurora Tunes is a series of half-hour organ concerts, almost every Friday in October and November at 17:30, usually played by the cathedral’s organist, Thorsten Ahlrichs, on the 2005 Grönlunds organ. The 2026 programme pairs Felix Mendelssohn and Flor Peeters with Baroque pieces, among them Georg Böhm’s variations on a German evening hymn, and arrangements of modern composers. Tickets are NOK 250 for adults and NOK 150 for children 8 to 15, younger children free, sold at the door or online. It ends at 18:00, early enough for dinner in town and the northern lights after. Christmas and New Year’s Eve

The December concerts are given by visiting choirs and singers, so each sells its own tickets: the Aurora Borealis choir’s on Hoopla at NOK 479, Julefred on Hoopla at NOK 595 for adults and NOK 275 for children, and also on GetYourGuide. Julefred is Jardar Johansen’s Christmas concert, toured in Northern Norway for more than 25 years, with his daughters Sunniva and Rebecca and a band, about 90 minutes of Norwegian and English Christmas songs. The New Year’s concert on 31 December at 21:00 is the cathedral organist alone for 45 minutes, after a service at 18:00.

Summer and the rest of the year

In summer the cathedral runs its “Cathedral of Light” series, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 21:00 in 2026, from NOK 200: the midnight sun concert guide has the programme. Through the year there are visiting choirs, services every Sunday at 11:00, and Easter and Christmas services. Funerals and weddings can shorten a day’s visiting hours, so check opening hours before you go in the afternoon.
